Oggetto d'uso domestico, il ferro da stiro del tipo che veniva scaldato sul fuoco o con la brace rientra oggi a pieno titolo nel mercato collezionistico, soprattutto se si tratta di un esemplare del 1800, secolo in cui i ferri venivano ormai prodotti su scala industriale e per lo più in ghisa.

Come ogni Promessa che si rispetti.. oggi ci avventureremo nella Storia di un Fantastico Arredo...

Quando i Mobili destinati alla Scrittura si diffusero nell'arredo domestico, nacquero diverse tipologie. Tra queste, il 'Secretaire à abattant', un mobile francese alto e stretto realizzato per la prima volta negli anni sessanta del XVIII secolo a Parigi dall'ebanista Jean - Francois Oeben.

Simile ad un armadio quando era chiuso, aveva il fronte superiore incernierato e apribile dall'alto, con piano interno rivestito in pelle per essere usato per la scrittura. Nel corpo inferiore si aprivano cassetti o ante con un vano a cassetti o ripiani. In molti esemplari, un altro cassetto era inserito nella fascia della cornice ed era spesso nascosto da una decorazione.
